During an exchange visit to France in the year 2000 between the City of Dieppe, New Brunswick, Canada, and Dieppe France, the New Brunswick delegation sought to identify partnering opportunities in areas such as education, culture, history and tourism. It was then identified that a festival held in Dieppe, France for the past 20 years, the « Festival du Capital du Cerf-volant » would be a great idea for a twinning program.
Following discussions between both cities, as well as representatives of the festival, a protocol of cooperation was established and signed between the two festivals to then give birth to the first International Kite Festival in Dieppe, Canada in 2001.
The festival in Canada maintains a collaborative approach with Dieppe, France on technical aspects, selection of participants, exchange of ideas and personnel.
This exchange has greatly evolved over the years thanks to the support provided by staff of the « Festival du Capital du Cerf-volant » in Dieppe, France, the event coordinator and our many volunteers. The International Kite Festival is growing from year to year and is recognized worldwide.
